I’m a composer and producer creating music that bridges emotion and atmosphere — from solo piano and ambient textures to cinematic and downtempo production. My debut score for the award-winning feature documentary Spellers highlighted the film’s emotional tone and introduced my blend of acoustic and electronic sound. Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, I compose for film, media, and standalone release — music shaped by simplicity, movement, and mood.

About MArK r POFF

Mark R Poff is a composer and producer whose debut score for the feature documentary Spellers accompanied the film’s award-winning success and worldwide viewership. The project introduced his cinematic, piano-based style — a blend of human storytelling, modern production, and textural restraint.

The Spellers score helped accentuate the film’s emotional tone and storytelling and has garnered more than 2.5 million streams across streaming platforms.

The film itself received multiple honors, including Best Documentary Feature and Donor’s Choice Award at the 2023 Phoenix Film Festival, and Honorary Best Feature Documentary at the Ridgefield International Film Festival.

Music & Approach

Mark’s compositions bridge emotion and atmosphere — from solo piano and ambient textures to chill and downtempo production. His work often merges acoustic and electronic instruments, blending piano, synthesizers, percussion, and other textures into layered, cinematic environments.

He composes and produces music for film, media, and standalone release — creating pieces defined by simplicity, mood, and subtle detail.

Background

Mark grew up in a musical family and studied classical piano, percussion, and woodwinds. He performed in a wide range of ensembles — from orchestras and jazz groups to chorales and rock bands — experiences that built a broad understanding of theory, instrumentation, and musical emotion.

He later studied Music Production at Berklee Online (Berklee College of Music), complementing a long and successful earlier career in finance. That background informs his creative process of balancing structure and precision with intuition and emotional storytelling.

Current Work

Mark composes original scores for film and documentary projects and produces sync-ready instrumental cues for A&R services, as well standalone release projects. His recent work focuses on piano, downtempo, and chill music — blending classical restraint with electronic flow across a range of genres from jazz and electronic.

Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he writes and produces from his personal studio, collaborating with filmmakers and artists.
